What I pack in my Beach Bag

Being that it’s summertime, and I like so many others, want to spend more time outside enjoying the warm weather on our patios, picnicking at the local park, and lounging by the pool or beach … but all of the added sun exposure can take a serious toll on our skin! Over time, excess sun exposure can give us freckles (and not the cute little ones that we were born with), moles which can lead to serious skin complications, and pre-mature wrinkles. Between speaking to my dermatologist, conducting my own research, and listening to my mom’s advice, they all say that it can take 20 years for the full effect of sun damage to appear! ISN’T THAT CRAZY?!?! Being that I am only in my 20’s, I am doing all that I can to preserve the fair skin I have been given, to look my fab-est when I go into my 30’s, 40’s, and beyond!

Having spent the majority of the week outside by the pool and the beach last week, I was fully prepped to spend my time in the sun responsibly. I am totally unopposed to laying out for a bit of time or having some playtime in the water – it’s such a nice feeling – but when that time is over, it’s back under the umbrella for me! I’ve been on a hunt for a great all natural, organic sunscreen, and recently I’ve been loving Neutrogena’s Sensitive Skin Face Liquid Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 for my face, but I am still searching for a natural sunscreen for my body. If you have recommendations, I’d love to hear from you in the comments below! You can read a great article I’ve been loving about organic sunscreens here!

I also had my favorite wide brimmed sunhat from J. Crew that I have been wearing constantly this summer for walking around during the day, always along with a pair of sunglasses. And on long days at the beach or pool, remember to stay hydrated! Having a water bottle handy is always a good reminder to reach down and take a sip, especially when it’s infused with some citrus slices and herbs.

All of my beach goodies were held in my super awesome and favorite beach bag that I bought in the gift shop of the Beach Club at Sea Island. It is a HUGE bag, and can hold everything from a big towel to your flip flops. Plus, the fish pattern, beautiful blue color, and pink Sea Island insignia add to the greatness of the bag.
