Now that we are into the thick of winter here on the east coast, I notice that so often our personal styles start to get a little more gloomy, dark, and repetitive. We often find ourselves getting caught in the rut of ALL BLACK EVERYTHING, every day, for every occasion. I wanted to breakout of my winter all-dark-and-gloomy-everything standard, into something a little lighter and brighter. Queue: winter white!
White is such an unexpected color in the winter because everyone is bundled up in their seasonal darks. Subsequently, white definitely makes you stand out more! I decided to start my color breakout soon, and the shoot I was on last weekend was the perfect time to start!
Time for a story: I had a gorgeous white coat from Ann Taylor that I’ve had since I was practically a teenager. I haven’t worn it in quite a while, and recently brought it out from long-term storage. I found that it had been stained permanently, and that no amount of dry cleaning magic would be able to remove the stain 😢. So, into the donation pile it reluctantly went. I was, however, reminded how amazing winter white is! The coat I wore at the shoot is a recent purchase to replace the stained one, and is the same exact coat that I have in a camel/tan color, which I’ve owned for 2 years now. It is one of my absolute favorites, and it’s such a classic and standard item to have in your winter wardrobe. It’s great example finding something that fits you and is made well, then collecting it in several colors!
You might not be able to see it from the pictures, but I am wearing a wonderful white sweater dress from Eloquii. It is currently sold out, so I linked some similar options on to my LIKEtoKNOW.it page! Okay. so the look wasn’t all “all white everything” because I wore my favorite over-the-knee boots and black tights. My look was completed by a white beret (that I also have in black), black leather gloves, and an embossed snakeskin bag, which was one of my favorite gifts that I received for Christmas this year (thanks mom!).
I am actually sooooo in love with this coat!! I love that it can update and add an unexpected pop to any winter look – and since it is white, it goes with EVERYTHING! I also wore it over an all black outfit to showcase its versatility, which you can see below! The Manhattan skyline provided the perfect backdrop for the shoot, and luckily we had the most amazing weather! Now, all that’s left to do is wait out the remainder of the winter, and look forward to spring sundresses and sandals!
