What I’m Packing for Italy

Whether it’s one weekend or one month, while traveling I am always very intentional with my packing. From shoes to accessories, I incorporate the items already in my closet with the new items I have just purchased (because who doesn’t love bringing out a new item or two on a special vacation?!). Knowing that I will be in Italy during the hottest two months of the year, I know that ease and lightness of fabric will be imperative in my day-to-day comfort. Throughout my travels, I have a great sense of European, and more specifically, Italian women’s fashion. Italian women that I have seen don’t really wear short skirts or shorts, nothing too tight or low cut, they love to layer with scarves and jackets, and are of course always comfortable, easy, and stylish.

Since I was young, my mom always gave me the advice to “pack in outfits”, with interchangeable pieces. Being that this trip is an extended one, my packing process needed to be even more methodical. I am going with a mostly-white color palate, with small colored accents in my accessories, some dresses, and interchangeable coordinating separates.

As far as dresses go, you know how much of a fan I am of Gal Meets Glam Collection (see posts here, here and here). Their dresses are so well made, dreamy, and beautiful, I could imagine myself totally living in those dresses this summer. I am brining three dresses that I have in my closet, one from last season that I just bought through Poshmark at a major discount, and one more that I just purchased from their website.

Express is a brand that I have loved since I was in high school, and they are still one of my go-to brands! From work to play, a lot of my closet is filled with items from Express. Last year, I was accepted into their affiliate program, and they are definitely the most well known brand that I get to work with! It makes me so happy and excited to be able to collaborate with a brand that I love so much, and whose clothes fit me so well. In my search for separates and with my color palette in mind, I went mostly with blue and white linen pieces: one cute maxi dress, two skirts, two pairs of white jeans, and two tops. A few items were gifted, and a few I purchased.

Can you believe I only bought one pair of shoes for this trip?!! (I know, me neither😂) I’m absolutely in love with espadrilles right now, but the few I have are all heeled. I knew I would need a light pair of shoes to walk around in if I were to have a particularly long day of walking or standing, without needing to wear a sneaker (which I am also bringing!). I totally loved these Tory Burch espadrilles when I went into their store to shop, and walked out with them with a huge grin on my face. I can’t wait to wear them, and from their style to the light cream color, I know they’ll go with everything! For heels,  I have a pair of tan low-black heels, a pair of white crocheted platforms espadrilles and a pair lemon-yellow espadrilles, both from Castaner.

For accessories and jewelry, I was a little more loose with my strive to stay within my color palette. I love a good pop of color, and for me and my style jewelry is often where that comes from! Especially when traveling, jewelry is small and light enough to not make a big impact on your suitcase space or weight. I am also bringing my most favorite clutch from Cult Gaia, my lemon-shaped cross body by Betsey Johnson, and a wide brimmed straw hat.

On the occasion that I take a trip to the coast, I will feel totally chic and comfortable in my bathing suits from Monday Swimwear. I have followed Tash and Dev on Instagram for quite a while, but it was only this past winter that I made my first purchase! I’ve got to he honest, when I first ordered, I was a little nervous about how it would fit me, but from the moment I tried it on, I was totally in love with the material, cut, and color. I will be bringing my Portofino one piece in rose (sold out, same style here) and my Aruba one piece in black. I also have a few favorite coverups that I’ll have, as well as a sarong.

I am just so unbelievably excited to have the opportunity to live in Italy for a summer. I am anxiously counting down the minutes until my flight, but am also wanting time to slow down just a touch so I can make sure I have all of the smaller items on my list.

Current count down: T- 2 days!!!!!!
